10 Good Tips for Dating Etiquette
1. Watch your language, nobody wants to be around a foul/loud mouthed person that can’t seem to understand why everybody is so offended. You are not impressing anybody unless somebody is impressed by your complete lack of understanding for dating etiquette.
2. Do not discuss other people in
the restaurant/movie theater/general place of social activity that you are in at the moment. This won’t come across well as you are either talking behind their backs or insulting them, flat out bad dating etiquette.
3. Regardless of your urge or your perceived signals to do so, never, ever discuss sex or anything related to it on your first date if you want this to go anywhere. Let things happen as they may, but talking about it will just make things go downhill in a hurry.
4. Resist talking about ex-girl or boyfriends or one night stands or the like because you will only bring up emotions that are unacceptable in dating etiquette. Talking about it will make you angry or, even worse, making them feel further from being the object of your attention.
5. If you can sense early on that the date isn’t going anywhere, don’t assume that it is their fault and treat them badly for it. Some people just don’t mix well and that doesn’t mean that they are subhuman and don’t deserve to be treated well. End the date at a decent time and go home.
6. If your problem with someone early in a date is their appearance, don’t dismiss them right away and ruin the date. Some people find that their tastes change when they begin interacting with someone and you never know, it could be that someone.
7. Telling lies to somebody about yourself or your situation to get something from somebody (money or physical pleasure) will only come back to haunt you. You may get away with it at first, but understand, you will be discovered sooner or later.
8. Unless there is an obvious or overt attempt for the woman to pay the check, or her half, then the man should pick it up without question. This is nothing sexist or discriminatory, but a traditional way to avoid an awkward discussion on a first date.
9. Make sure that your date is comfortable or feels safe throughout the duration of your date. This may seem strange, but some people don’t feel comfortable in situations that are quite normal to others. Just ask politely and if you get an answer you feel to be accurate then go on with the date.
10. For everyone’s sake, if you do feel uncomfortable or unsafe in a particular environment let the other person know about it! You may seem unfair or difficult to yourself, but it is better that they feel good too and they get to see the real you instead of someone trying to ignore their real feelings
