Free online dating is like having a free car. If someone offered to give you a free car, wouldn’t you worry about how safe the car would be? Well, when you don’t pay for a dating site, you should wonder how good the site will be.

There are plenty of free online dating sites out there. Or at least that is what they say until you read the fine print.

Most of them actually require payment for you to be able to communicate with other members of the site. You may be able to view the profiles of other people, but you won’t be able to send them an email. What good is it if you can’t do what you signed up for. Most of the time you won’t know for sure there is a charge until you have already gone through a lengthy sign-up process and have given up your email address.

There are some legitimate free dating sites out there, but they usually don’t have much action and certainly not the caliber of people you will find on pay sites such as Match, EHarmony and MillionaireMatch.

If you want to find a real free dating site that does not require any additional monies, there are some out there. Finding them can be difficult. An example of a true free online dating site is OkCupid. They do take donations and if you donate money you are given some added features, but if you don’t pay you can still have complete access to the site. Most of the people on the site do not have photos and have very little filled out on the profiles. This is typical of free online dating sites.

PlentyofFish is another free online dating site. It is probably the most popular of all the free online dating sites out there and it has more members than most of the other free online dating sites combined. The drawback: ads. There are Google ads everywhere. Many of the members do not spend much time filling out the profile and the questions are not nearly as extensive as pay sites.

No matter which site you decide to sign up with, take the time to write your online personals profile. It is not something you want to rush through. The more specific and detailed your profile is the better chance you have of meeting the mate that is right for you.

Before you spend the time to sign up for a free online dating site, think about what you are getting. Is it really worth your time? Wouldn’t it be a better value to pay for a service. You get what you pay for.
