Bridal Shower Entertainment: Do You Know Who You Are Marrying

Your best friend is getting married in three weeks and you have decided to throw a bridal shower for her. A lot of the people you want to invite to the shower do not really know the groom-to-be. You have a low budget, but you want to do something that everyone will enjoy — especially your friend. Here is an idea that will cost you practically nothing,

give your party goers some hearty laughs, and provide an opportunity for everyone at the party to get to know the groom a bit.

BEFORE THE SHOWER

This activity does require a little preparatory planning, but as long as you have access to the future groom and a recording device (tape recorder, video camera, digital voice recorder, or pencil & paper) you are set. Before the day of the bridal shower, schedule some time alone with your friend’s fiance. When you meet up, explain to him that you are going to interview him and that his answers will be shared at the bridal shower (this gives him the opportunity to jazz up his comments a bit if he so feels inclined). You may also want to explain to him that his fiance may answer similar questions about himself.

The interview questions should be short, but they should also provide room for some real funny answers. Some sample questions for the interview could be (assume the bride’s name is Cindy):

1. Where did you first meet Cindy?
2. What were your thoughts about Cindy after your first date?
3. What was Cindy like in High School?
4. What were you like in High School?
5. If Cindy were ever to get a ticket from a cop, what would be the cause?
6. If you were ever to get a ticket from a cop, what would be the cause?
7. If Cindy were stranded on a deserted island, what are the first three things she would want to have with her?
8. If you were stranded on a deserted island, what are the first three things you would want to have with you?
9. If Cindy were a superhero, who would she be? Why?
10. If you were a superhero, who would you be? Why?

The interview question possibilities are numerous and they could prompt a lot of fun answers. Don’t try to provide too many interview questions, though. The presentation of the interview will take longer than you would expect. Try to limit your number of questions to about ten.

If you recorded the interview on a tape, CD, or video media, you will want to test it out before the shower and make sure you have the needed technology at the location of the shower.

THE BRIDAL SHOWER

This activity could very well be your main activity at the bridal shower. At the appropriate time during your party gather everyone around in a circle. The circle should be near the technology that you are using to playback the interview. If the interview is on paper, then you can gather anywhere. Explain to the group that you interviewed the groom to be and that you will also be interviewing the future bride to see how much they know about each other.

Read or play the question and then ask the bride what her answer would be to that question. Once she has finished explaining her answer to the group, play the groom’s response to that same question and compare answers. Some people like to have a reward and punishment system at this part of the game. It is not necessary, but if you feel that it fits the personality of the group and the bride, go ahead and implement a simple system. Rewards could be the opening of a gift from a person in the group, or receiving a candy bar. Punishments could range from telling an embarrassing story or having to add a gum ball in their mouth for every wrong answer.

This activity will bring a lot of giggles and laughs to the party as everyone gets to know the bride and groom a bit better. The couple will remember the shower with a smile, especially if you give them a copy of their interviews as part of a final shower gift.
